Commercial Assembly
Do it yourself or ask our advice
You can put up your commercial or industrial building yourself with our high quality, easy to follow step by step construction manual. Or you can speak to your local Ranbuild dealer who can organise highly professional and experienced construction team to take care of it for you. Here is a brief outline of the basic steps required to assemble a commercial building.
Site preparation, concreting and erection of steelwork are best done by qualified and licensed tradespeople. Contact your local Accredited Ranbuild Dealer who can arrange an experienced building erector for you.
All construction sites and shed erectors should comply with the occupational health and safety requirements and your local Work Cover authority. The Safework Australia website is a good source of information and includes links to Work Cover and other associated websites.
Step 1
After the slab has hardened, assembly of steelwork may begin. Start by standing the side wall columns attached to the hold down bolts cast into the slab.
Step 2
Assemble rafters in pairs and fit the purlins between the rafters in every second bay. Keep an eye on the roof pitch and allow for deflection in accord with the erection manual.
Step 3
Lifting must be done with a crane – two or more may be required on large span buildings. Use spreader bars to prevent distortion of the roofing section.
Step 4
Special care must be taken with end bay roof sections that will have end wall columns fitted later. Temporary support may be required until columns are fitted.
Step 5
Lift the roof panel into place, taking care not to distort the connections or members. Notice how some wall girts have been added to stabilise the structure.
Step 6
Line up the rafters with the columns and begin bolting them together. All bolts must be TIGHT as per instructions in the assembly manual.
Step 7
Continue connecting the roof panel to the side wall columns. Prepare and locate end wall columns onto their holding down bolts before standing.
Step 8
Stand and connect end wall columns before removing the crane from the roof panel. Check deflection to maintain level ridge line before proceeding.
Step 9
Using the crane and spreader bars, lift the next roof panel ( bay three) into place. Attach knee braces and tighten all bolts in accord with the assembly manual.
Step 10
Proceed to the next roof panel and lift it into place. A scissor lift or mobile scaffold will aid with the connecting of panels, intermediate purlins and knee braces.
Step 11
Continue the process of completing every second bay until reaching the end of the building, then add intermediate purlins and girts before commencing cladding.
Step 12
Install roof, skylights and wall cladding in accord with the assembly manual. Wall cladding may need to be cut to shape or size around windows, openings and doorways.
Step 13
Install sliding or roller doors as per the suppliers instructions. Prepare and install windows, access doors or other options as per the Ranbuild assembly manual.
Step 14
With the building at lock-up stage, power, lighting or internal lining can be safely installed. Don't forget to add the Ranbuild sticker for identification of quality.
